The Makita 140441-9 is a rubber backing pad (also called a sanding pad) designed for use with certain Makita random-orbit (“orbital”) sanders. Its primary job is to provide a resilient surface onto which sanding sheets or discs are attached. It acts as the interface between the sander’s oscillating / orbiting mechanism and the abrasive paper, helping to maintain even pressure, reduce vibration, and allow better finish control during sanding.
